The recently deceased former head of Fox News, Roger Ailes, appears to have received an accurate estimate of his own death years ago, reports The Hill.
In 2013, Vanity Fair printed an excerpt of the book 'Roger Ailes: Off Camera' which states that “Ailes has a very acute sense of his own mortality. ‘I’d give anything for another 10 years,’ he often says, and, typically, he has crunched the numbers.”
It then quotes him as saying, just before he turned 72, that “My doctor told me that I’m old, fat, and ugly, but none of those things is going to kill me immediately. The actuaries say I have six to eight years. The best tables give me 10. Three thousand days, more or less.”
In fact, Ailes died on Thursday morning at 77, just reaching shorter estimate.
During the interview, he admitted to being used to thinking about his own mortality, saying, “Because of my hemophilia, I’ve been prepared to face death all of my life.”
The disorder is an incurable genetic condition that reduces the blood’s ability to clot.
As such, he expressed acceptance about such an outcome, saying, in part, “Everybody fears the unknown. But I have a strong feeling there’s something bigger than us…I’m at peace. When it comes, I’ll be fine, calm. I’ll miss life, though. Especially my family.”
TMZ is reporting, based on inside sources, that “Ailes fell at his Florida home 8 days ago and hit his head.”
The outlet then says that he lost consciousness, was placed into an induced coma, then died; his other health problems are believed to have factored into the outcome.
Ailes left Fox News last year amid multiple claims of sexual harassment.
