Large tunnel containing nuclear waste collapses

Workers at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation were evacuated on Tuesday after a tunnel collapsed on top of rail cars filled with radioactive waste. The collapsed tunnel was hundreds of feet long and contained nuclear fuel rods stored in train cars underneath. A robot was sent by officials to test radiation in the air and on the grounds surrounding the tunnel, but it did not find any traces of contamination. Officials say that no workers were injured in the vicinity. The U.S. Department of Energy said that employees were removed from the area immediately and told to remain indoors, but were able to go home by the afternoon.
