KARACHI: A large part of localities plunged into darkness on Tuesday night as a major fault occurred at Bin Qasim power plant of city’s electricity utility K-Electric (KE) here, ARY News reported.

According to KE, the massive power outage in the city was caused when a unit of Bin Qasim Power Plant tripped on Tuesday.

Power distribution in five districts of the city adversely affected as result of the tripping, causing power outage for hours adding to the misery of the citizens in scorching summer nights. The power utility failed to restore the electricity through 12 grid stations to the affected areas till Wednesday morning.

It was the third major breakdown in the city in this summer that resulted in power outage for hours in the metropolis.

The electric supply has remained suspended in Malir area since Tuesday evening while massive power load-shedding was reported in many other areas of District East including Cosmopolitan Society, Tariq Road, PIB Colony and Bahadurabad.

In Central District of the city, North Nazimabad, Hasrat Mohani Colony, Pahar Ganj, Buffer Zone, Liaquatabad, and North Karachi were the most affected areas where power shutdown prolonged for hours.

In District Korangi the electric supply could not be restored in Mehmoodabad, Landhi, Korangi, and Shah Faisal Colony till Wednesday morning.

Moreover, in the old city areas of Lyari, Tower, Saddar, Garden along with Qayumabad, and Defense Phase II were the most affected in District South where power outage was reported hours long.
