Trump approves plan to arm Syrian Kurds against Islamic State

The Trump administration approved of a plan to directly arm Syrian Kurdish forces against the Islamic State on Tuesday. The plan is to arm the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) as part of the U.S. military to capture the Syrian city of Raqqa, which is the Islamic State’s capital. The partnership can hurt U.S. ties with Turkey, who views the YPG as a threat. Pentagon Spokesperson Dana W. White Once the order goes to the Pentagon, the U.S. can provide breaching and infantry equipment that includes bulldozers, rifles, and armor.
