Trial of Ex-President Yanukovych Opens in Kiev

The trial in absentia of Ukraine’s former President Viktor Yanukovych began in Kiev on May 4. Yanukovych is charged with high treason for violating Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and abetting Russian aggression, RFE said.The former leader fled to Russsia in February 2014 after he abandoned his office in the face of massive protests.The court adjourned until May 18, when Yanukovych is expected to testify by video link from Russia, RFE said.
