Ivanka Trump is facing additional scrutiny after the Associated Press, or AP, reported that she was awarded three provisional trademarks by China the same day she dined with the country’s president, Xi Jinping, and his wife.
The news outlet says that the trademarks allow her the exclusive rights to “sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services in the world's second-largest economy.”
While there are no reports that there was a discussion about her products that day, April 6, the timing has once again raised concerns about conflicts of interest between the Trump family’s  business holdings and their high-profile roles in the U.S. government.
During a recent interview with Gayle King on 'CBS This Morning,' the first daughter said about her company, “I put it into trust. I have independent trustees. I have no involvement in its management, in this oversight and its strategic decision making.”
And when King asked her about these ethics concerns, Ivanka said, “I would argue that if I had not come to Washington, D.C. and if I was in New York growing my business I would be doing far better than by placing the restrictions that I have placed on my team, and ensuring that any growth is done with extreme caution.”
In the wake of the new trademarks, the president of her company, Abigail Klem, released a statement to CNN indicating that the move was simply made to protect against “trademark infringement.”
