Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised what he claims is China's victory over the COVID-19 pandemic, saying it has passed "an extraordinary and historic test."
Speaking at a ceremony honoring those who served as role models in the fight againt the virus, President Xi said China is the first major economy to return to growth, which he said demonstrates the country's strong capabilities and vitality.
He added that China, during the pandemic, has acted in an open and transparent manner, making concrete efforts that helped save tens of millions of lives around the world.
China has come under intense global scrutiny over its reponse to the virus, and alleged coverups in the early days of the outbreak.
On Monday, China marked 23 consecutive days of no local infections.
