Heavy flooding struck the New Zealand town of Edgecumbe and some surrounding areas on April 6. Most of Edgecumbe’s population had to be evacuated after the Rangitaiki River burst its banks. This aerial footage shows water cascading from the Matahina Dam in a bid to control its level amid a huge inflow of floodwater. The necessary measure was “not good news for those downstream,” the New Zealand Herald said. Credit: Charlotte Knight via Storyful
