Cheerios wants you to help to save the bees!
Cheerios have launched a program to save the Rusty Patched Bumble Bees. The cereal company wants to plant 100 million wildflower seeds across the country. They are giving free wildflower seeds to those who sign up for them on the company's website. Wildflowers, which are rich in nectar and pollen, provide food and nutrients to bees. To promote their program, Honey Nut Cheerios pulled their mascot, Buzz, off the box. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) placed the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee on the endangered species list in January. The FWS said the decline of this species is due to pesticides, intensive farming, habitat loss, and global warming.
