BANGKOK — Dashcam footage has captured the tragic moment a German biker fell 15 meters to his death from a highway overpass in Thailand.

IT worker Christian Melzer was a longtime resident of Bangkok before his untimely death in the Thai capital last Friday.

In a cruel twist of fate, Melzer was speeding to the hospital to get treatment for a serious leg infection, according to Farang Deaths, a website that documents the deaths of foreigners in Thailand.

Earlier that day, Melzer posted to the Bangkok Expats Classified Forum on Facebook, seeking advice about his leg. He said he’d had the infection for six months. He didn’t have private insurance and asked where he could get treatment using his social security card.

But as other Facebook users posted helpful tips, Melzer was already on his bike.

Riding on a highway overpass, Melzer’s bike hit the side wall of a highway overpass and he tumbled to his death.

Christian Melzer was 39 years old. He is survived by his Thai wife and a daughter from their marriage, according to his posts on Facebook.
