Elk crashes into window well of Idaho basement

HAILEY, IDAHO — An elk fell into the basement of a home in Hailey, Idaho making it the second large animal to do so in the town last week.
“I wished we were making this up folks … but just minutes ago, another elk was confronted by our Conservation Officers for breaking and entering,” the Idaho Fish and Game Magic Valley posted on Facebook.
Last Thursday evening, a man living on North Ridge Drive called the authorities after he discovered that an elk fell into his basement through a window well.
“He said the elk fell right through into his basement and was just standing there,” Hailey Police Lieutenant Steve England said.
Hailey police officers and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game conservation officers responded to the call, the East Idaho News reported.
Officers blocked the doors in the house and managed to get the elk up the stairs and out the front door.
“Officer Lee Garwood was able to negotiate with the elk by smacking it on the rump with a hockey stick he found in the basement, convincing it to vacate,” the Facebook post read.
On Jan. 29, a moose fell into another home in Hailey. It had to be tranquilized before officials carried it up the stairs and out of the front door, according to the East Idaho News.
Because of heavy snowfall, large amounts of wildlife have been reported near many residential areas.
