Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game he will need the help of eager young female race technician Cruz Ramirez. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet, he will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage against his new rival, Jackson Storm.

The third film in the Cars franchise got an early start. Way back on August 17, 2013, the film was first confirmed by Michael Wallis (voice of Sheriff in the films). It was during a radio interview that he told listeners that Cars 3 would go back to Route 66 and will also include Route 99. Then seven months later, during a Disney stockholder meeting on March 18, 2014, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Pixar had in fact begun pre-production on Cars 3.

Cars 3 will not hit theaters until June 16, 2017 which means that this film will have taken over 3 years from pre-production to a theater near you.

Cars 3 is being Directed by Brian Fee who was actually a storyboard animator on both Cars (2006) and Cars 2 (2011).
