La La Land lands 11 BAFTA nominations

Fresh from its sweeping success at the Golden Globes, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land is topping the board in this year’s British Academy Award nominations.

The musical romance has been selected for a potential 11 nods, including Best Film and leading actor and actress for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.









Fashion designer Tom Ford’s drama Nocturnal Animals has been nominated for nine BAFTAs, including a surprise one for lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal.









Arrival also takes nine nod nominations. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi film tells the story of a linguistic professor who tries to understand aliens. Amy Adams is nominated for her leading role.









Director of the likes of Margaret and You Can Count on Me Kenneth Lonergan is in the running for the Best Director Nod, for his grief drama Manchester By The Sea. The film is also nominated for a further five BAFTAs.

And not forgetting the British films. While there’s been criticism of American Honey’s single nomination, I, Daniel Blake, Ken Loach’s gritty Newcastle-based drama has picked up five nominations.









The 2017 BAFTA Awards ceremony will take place on February 12 at the Royal Albert Hall.
