New York City officials on Thursday said security for the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square will be the most extensive ever, \ with some 7,000 police officers assigned and 65 sand-filled garbage trucks stationed to block city streets. New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said there are "no direct concerns" related to Times Square, or New Year's Eve celebrations generally. An estimated two million people are expected to ring in 2017 in Times Square, according to officials.
