President Obama Says He Could Have Won 2016 Election Against Trump

In an interview with CNN’s David Axelrod on 'The Axe Files' podcast aired Monday, President Obama expressed his belief that had he been permitted to run for the high office in 2016, his dedication to hope, unity, and betterment would have propelled him to a victory.

Said Obama, “I am confident in this vision because I'm confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could've mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it."
He continued, “I know that in conversations that I’ve had with people around the country, even some people who disagreed with me, they would say the vision, the direction that you point towards is the right one.”
The president also pointed out vulnerabilities in the Democrats’ recent campaign strategy, noting, “We're not there on the ground communicating not only the dry policy aspects of this, but that we care about these communities, that we're bleeding for these communities. It means caring about local races, state boards or school boards and city councils and state legislative races and not thinking that somehow, just a great set of progressive policies that we present to the New York Times editorial board will win the day."
Obama has brought up that lack of grassroots activity in the past, notes the Washington Post.
During a mid-November news conference regarding the party’s recent loss he recalled what made his presidential bid successful.

It was because I spent 87 days going to every small town and fair and fish fry and VFW Hall, and there were some counties where I might have lost, but maybe I lost by 20 points instead of 50 points.
