Army Corps blocks drilling of Dakota Access Pipeline

The Army Corps of Engineers denied a permit for the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline under a dammed section of the Missouri River. The decision is a major victory for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the thousands of protesters across the country. The army essentially prevented the construction of the 1,172-mile oil pipeline about half a mile south of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. However, as the Obama administration is coming to an end, what will happen to the oil pipeline remains in question. President-elect Donald Trump said last week that he supported finishing the pipeline, which crosses four states and is nearly completed.
