Type 1 Diabetes, benefits of Exercise

A small study suggests aerobic exercise can benefit people with type 1 diabetes who are on insulin pumps. The three-month study found six people with type 1 diabetes who did aerobic workouts had better blood sugar control, used less insulin and had fewer high blood sugar events than others who did not exercise. Type 1 diabetes causes the body's immune system to attack insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, living people with the disease with little to none of the hormone. Insulin is necessary for the body to use the carbohydrates found in food. Researchers say exercise alone cannot be used to treat the disorder, and more studies with more participants must be done.
