DES MOINES, IOWA — Des Moines authorities have arrested a man suspected of slaying two police officers on Wednesday morning.

Speaking at a news conference, Des Moines police spokesman Par Parizek said the officers were “ambushed,” Reuters reported.

According to CNN, Urbandale police officer Justin Martin was sitting in his police vehicle in the Des Moines suburb when suspect Scott Michael Greene, 46, allegedly shot him to death early Wednesday morning. Des Moines police sergeant Anthony Beminio was also allegedly killed by Greene in a similar fashion some two miles from the first shooting.

According to CNN, Greene was arrested after he hailed a state Department of Natural Resources officer in Dallas County and asked him to call 911. He has not yet been charged, ABC reported citing police.
