Apple has given up building a car — for now

Apple temporarily put its plans to build a car on hold, according to Bloomberg journalists Mark Gurman and Alex Webb, citing sources. Over the last few months, "hundreds" of people on a 1,000-strong Apple car team were reassigned, let go or left the company, Bloomberg's sources said. Though Apple no longer wants to build its own automobile, it's still considering developing an autonomous driving system that could be sold to car manufacturers or integrated into an Apple car in the future, according to the report. Apple never officially said it is working on a car, but the company recruited automotive experts from companies like Ford and Mercedes-Benz, according to the Financial Times.
