Elon Musk called out for tech sexism, not following any women on Twitter

LOS ANGELES — Despite focusing his efforts on revolutionizing transport and colonizing Mars, tech mogul Elon Musk has been called out for not following any female users on his Twitter account.
On Tuesday, Vice’s tech website Motherboard revealed that Musk follows 56 accounts, 21 of which are male users, while the rest are brands or publications. In response to Motherboard’s tweet publicizing its findings, Musk defended himself by saying he uses Twitter for news and follows as many women as men on Instagram.
Other tech giants should probably have their guard up.
According to a Guardian analysis of the Twitter accounts of tech’s biggest players, the worst offender appears to be Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who follows 267 accounts, including 238 men and 21 women. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella followed the most women, 39 accounts out of a total of 163, which includes 78 men.
Apple CEO Tim Cook follows 51 accounts, including 20 men and four women. Microsoft founder Bill Gates follows 169 accounts, including 57 men and 12 women.
Shortly after the article came out, Elon Musk went ahead and started following Caity Weaver of GQ Magazine.
