University of Michigan allows students to choose own personal pronouns, student picks ‘His Majesty’

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN — The University of Michigan has instituted a new initiative to allow students to choose their own personal pronouns. Gender neutral terms like “They,” “Ze,” or “Zir” are expected to be requested, as the institution makes an effort to create an inclusive environment for everyone.
The new policy also stipulates that if faculty members fail to use each student’s preferred pronoun, they may be subject to disciplinary action. A student, Grant Strobl, believes if professors are penalized, the initiative is absurd. Taking advantage of this new policy, Strobl has chosen the pronoun “His Majesty.”
Webster’s dictionary has yet to include the pronoun “Ze” as a term in the English language, and so Strobl’s stance is if that’s the case, students can pretty much choose to go by anything they want.
The university’s vice president maintains the new initiative is “one of the most basic ways to show your respect for their identity and to cultivate an environment that respects all gender identities.”
