Illegal hunting puts eastern gorilla at extremely high risk of extinction

The largest living primate, the eastern gorilla, has been listed as critically endangered sliding towards extinction.
According to a report released Sunday at the World Conservation Congress in Hawaii, the eastern gorilla has suffered a 70% population decline over the past 20 years, mainly due to illegal hunting.
“To see the eastern gorilla - one of our closest cousins - slide toward extinction is truly distressing" said Inger Andersen, The International Union for the Conservation of Nature director general
