MONTESANO, WASHINGTON — On August 24, a woman and her boyfriend were hanging out on the Devonshire Bridge when they decided to throw her 4-year-old child off into the river below for fun.

The bridge, which stands over the Wynoochee River, is a common spot for young people to jump off during the hot summer days. A few teens were hanging out at the bottom of the rocks, when they noticed some strange commotion atop the bridge and began recording. Getting egged on by the boy’s mom, her boyfriend reportedly picked up the child and chucked him off the 27-foot high bridge.

Locals interviewed at the scene said the child nearly hit his head on a beam, was screaming the entire time, and hit the water pretty hard, narrowly missing a patch of underwater boulders. The river runs 8-12 feet deep in that area. The child did not suffer any major injuries, but his mother and her boyfriend are under investigation for child endangerment.
