Nick Saban enters his tenth year with the program and will have six starters on offense and five to the defense. They must replace quarterback Jake Cooper and star running back Derrick Henry. There is a competition for the starting quarterback position between Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett. Jalen Hurts is also in the running but is a true freshman. Bateman served as a backup who completed 37 of 52 passes for 291 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Barnett is a red shirt freshman. Sophomore Damian Harris figures to be the lead running back who rushed 46 times a season ago for 157 yards with a touchdown.
