USC moved to 1-1 as they rebounded after a week one blowout loss to Alabama. The Trojans defeated Utah St 45-7 as a -15 ½ point favorite. The total went under 54 ½ points. The team built on a 21-0 halftime lead. The defense stymied the Aggies offense as they put up 253 yards and ran for only 1.9 per attempt on 26 carries. Trojans quarterback Ma Browne hit on 23 of 30 passes for 182 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. They picked up four yards a carry on the ground on 44 rushing attempts.

Stanford comes off a bye week after defeating Kansas St at home in their opener 26-13 as a -12 point favorite. The total went under 49 points. The Cardinal built a 17-3 halftime lead. They only put up 272 offensive yards and ran for 3 ½ yards per carry on 30 rushes. Quarterback Ryan Burns completed 14 of 18 throws for 156 yards and a touchdown. Heisman candidate Christian McCaffrey rushed for 126 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Defensively Stanford held Kansas St to 335 offensive yards with only 2.9 yards per carry on the ground on 32 runs from scrimmage.
