Gunmen abduct suspected drug cartel members from top Mexico tourist resort

In Mexico, around a dozen suspected members of the Sinaloa drug cartel have been kidnapped in the tourist resort of Puerto Vallarta.

Gunmen are reported to have stormed a local restaurant and seized the group in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Sinaloa gang is one of the most feared in Mexico. Despite that, the region’s governor attempted to reassure the public.

“ I want to tell the residents of Puerto Vallarta that the situation is under control and they can go out and work. They can do all their activities without any problem,” Jalisco Governor Jorge Aristoteles said.

Puerto Vallarta, in the state of Jalisco, is one of Mexico’s top holiday destinations, luring all-inclusive tourists and sunseekers to its beaches.

Lying south from Sinaloa along the Pacific coast, it is also home to the New Generation cartel, raising fears of a turf-war between drug gangs.
