With Paris Saint-Germain winning over Manchester United with a score of 2-0 this past Wednesday, Laurent Blanic’s side captured the International Champions Cup, and now they go to Montreal to face Olympique Lyonnais in the French Super Cup known as the Trophee des Champions. This will kick start the 2015-16 Ligue One, which is similar to what we see with the Community Shield. PSG may be the defending champions and cup winners, but Lyon finished second in the league last season. Lately, it’s been a tough ride for Les Gones, as they were defeated 6-0 by Arsenal and 2-0 by Villarreal in the Emirates Cup. Even though they were pre-season friendlies, they face a dark cloud going into this season.

Players to Watch: For PSG, we know that Edinson Cavani, David Luiz and Thiago Motta will start since they sat in the game against Manchester United, but one player to watch for PSG is midfielder Marco Verratti. Verratti was great last season and at 22 years old, he is going to play a huge role for PSG this season. With the rumors that Motta is leaving, it gives Verratti a chance to prove that he is going to be the leader of this club, especially with his body of work improving. Meanwhile, Clinton N’Jie will be the player to watch for Les Gones. N’Jie had a hot stretch in the final weeks of the season, and Hubert Fournier is going with a 4-3-3 this season, which will increase N’Jie’s minutes and could up his goal scoring this season. In the final six games of the season, N’jie scored four goals and set up two, which gives Lyon supporters hope for a great season. N’jie has the potential to be a breakout player this season.

Key Matchup: Lucas Moura didn’t play in the 2015 Copa America, and increased his playing time during the preseason, and that will be the theme in this game. Moura is a winger, but he will go out there and create chances just like what Javier Pastore did last season. Meanwhile, for Lyon to stop Moura, they will pair him with Maxime Gonalons, who is a defensive specialist and captain for Lyon. His body of work was so great that he got called on to represent the France squad, and will try to build on his success, by pulling off a victory in the Trophee des Champions.

Prediction: This game is going to finish in penalties. The favorite may be PSG because they’re the stronger team and the favorite in this game, but these French Super Cup games normally have a Shakespearean drama twist. Here’s a Derek Tidbit, five of the last eleven games have ended in penalties. This game is going to be fun to watch and expect another classic between these two. Last season, both of their games ended in draws, hence why I think this game is going the distance. But in the end, PSG is going to prevail in penalties.
