Starbucks is recalling roughly 2.5 million stainless steel straws due to laceration risks.
The recall follows 4 reports of youths suffering cuts to the mouth while using the straws.
In a statement, the company advised against letting children use the drinking accessories, reports NBC News.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, “This recall involves reusable stainless steel Cold-to-Go food grade drinking straws in two sizes. The straws were packaged and sold in sets of three and were also sold as a component of two sizes of stainless steel beverage cups: Grande 16-ounce cups and Venti 24-ounce cups. The straws feature a ridge at the bottom that keeps the straw attached to the lid. The Grande straws measure approximately 9.5 inches and the Venti straws measure approximately 10.4 inches.”
The items were sold both in Starbucks stores and on its website from 2012 through 2016.
Consumers can exchange the metal straws for a plastic version at any Starbucks outpost or consult the website for further options and information, notes NBC News.
