Why is the school system crumbling in Venezuela?

The fall in oil prices, years of economic mismanagement and soaring crime in Venezuela is ripping apart the school system, threatening to create a lost generation. Armed robbers enter schools. Blackouts leave classrooms dark and students faint from hunger. A parent group has estimated that Venezuelan children are missing 40 percent of class time this year.
