A new marijuana-based drug greatly decreased seizures in children with Dravet syndrome in a phase 3 clinical trial, giving scientific credibility to a treatment used for several years but typically supported by anecdotal evidence. The developer of the drug, GW Pharmaceuticals, announced the results of the first of four trials involving drugs with marijuana extract. It is conducting these in the United States while it seeks approval from the Food and Drug Administration. The drug is made from an extract of Marijuana that does not intoxicate people, but has been shown to reduce seizures.
