Trek To Shimshal Pass It's Not So Easy

Shimshal pass is situated in the very remotest valleys of Hunza in the northern areas of Pakistan. Two days travel from Shimshal village, which is at an altitude of approximately about 4700-M, this beautiful pasture is so vast, hate the dwellers of this village spend six months with their cattle in this charming pasture. In this pasture several interesting event is the yak racing festival and the celebrations and festivals, on the end of harvest all villagers back to Shimshal only in the winter yaks remain in the mountain.

Shimshal Pass (4,735m) rises above the village. It lies on the watershed between the Indus River and Tarim River basins, and leads to the valley of the Shimshal Braldu River, a tributary of the Shaksgam River on the border with China. The pass is not part of Khunjerab National Park, but the Shimshal community has set an organization called SNT (Shimshal Nature Trust) which overlooks the entire region and takes care of its own land. It is a community based organization and is registered with the Government of Pakistan.
Annually, in the month of July, there is a festival in Shimshal Pass, where locals partake in a yak race, followed by singing and dancing. This yak race is the only one of its kind, and is a unique event organised at high mountain settlements of Pakistan .

This is the most popular trek in the Shimshal valley to visit the main summer pastures of Shujerab and Shuwert. You can go up by one route and return by another. The Shimshal Pass is on the central Asian watershed.
This is 19 days trek from Islamabad toShimshall Pass and then back to Islamabad, allowing beginner to climber 3 or more summits around 6000m to climb from the Shimshal Pass, MungaligSar Peak 5931m (6050m) with ascent of 1480m and descent of 1480m in a day. One of the two other 5000m peaks are KuzSar and ZhuiSarwhich are also possible to climb in one day.
