An American woman was arrested in Tenerife for alleged death threats against Stephen Hawking.

On Wednesday, celebrated astrophysicist Stephen Hawking spoke at a conference in Tenerife, Canary Islands, but the event was not without incident, reports El País.
A 37-year-old American woman, identified as Jenny Theresa C., was arrested in connection to threats made to the scientist’s life, notes the New York Daily News.
A search of her hotel room, which was located near the event location, revealed detailed information about Hawking’s itinerary and how she intended to commit the murder.
The woman had also sent many disturbing messages via email and social media, with one reading, “I am going to kill you.”
Her presence near the venue where Hawking delivered his address prompted an increase in security measures, reports Gizmodo.
Two officers accompanied him on stage and guards checked the attendees’ bags.
Those close to the astrophysicist said he was undaunted by the situation.
According to the BBC, she was "given a suspended four-month jail sentence." Furthermore, the woman "has been banned from approaching to within 500m of the scientist or communicating with him on social media for eight months."
