Cub Of Famous Wyoming Grizzly Bear Killed By Car

The cub of well-known Wyoming grizzly bear 399 was reportedly killed recently after getting hit by a car in the Grand Teton National Park.
A Wyoming grizzly bear known as 399 initially gained attention after being spotted in the Grand Teton National Park in 2006; reports about her have surfaced over the past ten years including a recent one about the death of her youngest cub in the park.
On Monday, Wyoming Wildlife Advocates posted to its Facebook page that the offspring, called Snowy or Spirit by some, was “struck and killed by [a] car at Pilgrim Creek.”
According to a Washington Post report, a bystander at the scene was told that the mother had even “dragged Snowy’s carcass to the side of the road.”
The tragedy occurred just over a month after the pair made a surprise appearance following a five-month-long hibernation, notes the National Geographic.
Though 399 has given birth to 16 offspring, the Wyoming Wildlife Advocates group points out that she “is nearing the end of her reproductive life, and sadly she has only replaced herself in the population with one adult female, Grizzly 610.”
