CHICAGO — Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting that killed one man in Chicago’s West Side.
The Chicago Tribune reports that around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Antonio Perkins was hanging out with friends and family outside his house on the 1600 block of South Drake Avenue.
He recorded himself and the gathering on a video that was streamed live on Facebook.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, until about five minutes in, when gunshots suddenly ring out. The phone can be seen tumbling to the grass, showing streaks of what appears to be blood.
The screen cuts to black, but the device continues to record the panicked voices as Perkins’ family and friends realize he has been hit.
Perkins sustained gunshot wounds to the head and neck. He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.
Authorities are investigating a gang motive for the shooting. Perkins was jailed for two years for making heroin and was on a police list of likely targets or suspects for gang violence, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
