US government issues new directives on transgender bathroom access

A new directive issued by the Obama administration to schools in the US allows transgender students to access bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity. States that do not comply risk losing federal funding. With some states digging in against the directive it may portend more court fights over transgender bathroom access.
