Austria’s presidential election was too close to call on Sunday, May 22, according to the results of an exit poll released by the country’s public broadcaster. The election is being described as historic as both of the country’s main centrist parties, having alternated the presidency since World War II, were knocked out in the first round of voting.
This video shows supporters of independent candidate Alexander Van der Bellen react to the results of the exit poll, which projected that der Bellen and his opponent Norbert Hofer, of the far-right Freedom Party, would take 50 percent of the vote each. Credit: Alex Poucher
