TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A man armed with a knife stabbed two people at a house in Taunton, Massachusetts and then stabbed four more people at a shopping center before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer. Two of the victims did not survive.

According to WCVB, the incident began after the attacker, 28-year-old Arthur Darosa, was involved in a crash on Myricks Street.

Witnesses say that after the crash Darosa began to run around the neighborhood and tried to break into nearby homes.

He was able to force his way into one house and then used a kitchen knife to stab an 80-year-old woman and her daughter. Both women were taken to the hospital. The 80-year-old woman died.

Darosa then fled the scene in a black Honda Accord that he had stolen.

According to WBZ, police responded to the Silver City Galleria shopping mall just before 7:00 p.m. after Darosa crashed his car into the front of a Macy's store.

Darosa then ran from Macy's to a Bertucci's restaurant and stabbed four people inside the restaurant, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III. One of the victims identified as a 56-year-old man also died.

An off-duty Plymouth County sheriff's deputy at the restaurant then shot Darosa one time. The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The mall was evacuated after the incident.
