Kids thrown out of 4th floor window in dramatic rescue from South Korea fire

PYEONGTAEK, SOUTH KOREA — On May 4th, 2016, a massive fire began to engulf a building in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. A mother, trapped in the smoke on the fourth floor, had to be convinced to drop her kids out of the fourth-floor window to save them. She did it, and one-by-one, the kids fell safely onto a blanket below.

After an inferno lit up a four-story apartment building in Pyeongtaek, a city located a roughly 2-hour drive south from Seoul, reports say U.S. servicemen and women from the nearby Osan Air Base joined the rescue, helping residents hold taut a blanket to catch the three children and their mom.

In what was surely a gut-wrenching decision, the mother, identified only as a 30-year-old Nigerian national, eventually dropped the kids … ages one, three and four out of the window and luckily one by one, the kids fell safely on to the waiting blanket below.

The mother then jumped herself and was saved.

Gratefully, due to the combined efforts of all those involved, all the building's residents survived; with the mother and her kids suffering only minor injuries.
