5-year-old girl saves blind grandma and family dog from burning house

KENNER, LOUISIANA — Five-year-old Cloe Woods may only be in pre-kindergarten, but she has enough wisdom to know what to do when the house is on fire.
Waking up to the sound of the beeping smoke detector on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 17, Cloe wondered what might be wrong. When she went to investigate, she found the stove in the kitchen had caught on fire.
Her mom had left to drop her siblings off at school, so Cloe took it upon herself to wake up her blind grandmother and get her to safety. Her teacher reports that Cloe's grandmother wanted to get her shoes on, but Cloe said no, and insisted they get out.
She put her grandmother's hand on her shoulder and guided her and the dog outside. Once in the clear, she told neighbors to call 9-1-1, and went knocking door-to-door to ask for water to help put out the fire.
Cloe's class went to visit the local fire department four months prior, where she learned the most important thing to do when there's a fire in the house is to get out.
Her teacher started a GoFundMe page to help the family recoup some money for the damages, and after only one day, the campaign has surpassed the stated $5000 goal.
