Teen opens fire at school prom and is promptly shot dead by police officer

ANTIGO, WISCONSIN — A teenager was shot and killed by a police officer after he opened fire with a rifle outside his former high school on Saturday night. Two other students were also injured in the shooting spree, but have been treated and are expected to survive.
Reports say 18-year-old Jakob E. Wagner was started shooting outside Antigo High School while a prom was taking place on the night of April 23, about 70 miles northwest of Green Bay, at 11:15 p.m.
An officer who was patrolling the school grounds heard the gunshots and returned fire, “stopping the threat,” police said.
Wagner was pronounced dead at the hospital about two hours after the shootout, according to authorities. Meanwhile, one female victim was treated and released for gunshot wounds. Another male victim underwent surgery and is expected to survive, police said.
A DJ at the prom said officials locked down the school after the shooting and cordoned students inside the gym until about 1 a.m.
Police have not released a motive for the attack, but Dylan Dewey, reportedly a friend of the suspect, told the Associated Press that he was an “all-around good guy” who was interested in guns and hunting. However, he didn’t seem able to afford a gun. Dewey added that a girl who attended the same high school as Wagner broke up with him last month. The Wasau Daily Herald reported an ex-classmate as saying that Wagner was frequently bullied, at least since middle school.
A photo Wagner posted to his Instagram account about four months ago show what he said was an airsoft rifle placed on a bed.
Wagner graduated from Antigo in 2015, but postings on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indicate that he continued playing in the school marching band through the past year. The school's newspaper listed him as an honor roll student last year.
