Chinese government silences Internet sensation Papi Jiang, orders her to reform the content

BEIJING — A young Internet star known as Papi Jiang has been reprimanded by Chinese authorities for the use of foul language.

Papi Jiang is actually more famous for her extremely fast-paced voice and sharp comments about current Chinese society, which occasionally contain swear words.

All of her funny videos are written and acted out by herself, and she tackles a wide range of topics such as the nitpicking bosses, annoying relatives, girls who show off wealth as well as disgusting couples who love to display their affections publicly.

Her funny comments speak out the hearts of many Chinese people, earning her millions of fans on Youku, Weibo, Wechat and Youtube. Papi Jiang also received nearly US$2 million venture capital funding just last month.

Papi Jiang's huge success attracted the attention of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, who censors everything that the Chinese citizens are allowed to watch or read. The organization ordered Papi Jiang to remove her videos and reform the content.

It is speculated that the denouncing of Papi Jiang is a gesture to discourage the business developments of internet celebrities, as well as an effort to clean up the internet, forcing the Chinese users to behave following an order from the President Xi.
