BEIJING — In the latest attempt to crack down inappropriate digital content, Chinese authorities have banned people from streaming themselves eating bananas erotically online.

The new regulations require live-streaming platforms to monitor all their output 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Although there isn't a fixed standard for what can be broadcasted, eating a banana is definitely a no.

Live stream broadcasting is a highly profitable business in China. It is estimated that the total amount of viewers may reach 100 million in 2016. About 70 percent of the viewers of live streams are men, ages 19 to 35.

Most popular hosts are young pretty girl dressed in revealing clothing. The host has to please her viewers by answering all of their questions and demands. The viewers then satisfy the host by buying her virtual gifts. Some hosts can earn up to 15,000 USD a month.
