LHASA, TIBET — The photographer who allegedly took and shared pictures of nude woman posing at a sacred lake in Tibet has been reportedly put under detention for 10 days.

The unidentified woman posing in the photos was visiting Tibet, and apparently wanted to mark the occasion by taking off her clothes and taking pictures naked at Yamdrok Lake, one of three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. This lake is where everyone from the Dalai Lama to local Tibetans makes pilgrimages every year.

The photographer, known as Yu Feixiong, uploaded his work to his WeChat page. Son after, the images were shared to public platform Weibo, igniting controversy over whether the photos are appropriate.

Local officials reportedly received a tip about the whereabouts of the photographer on the same day the photos began circulating online. The photographer was reportedly arrested and put under detention for 10 days.

This incident is similar to the Forbidden City photoshoot controversy last year, in which a photographer named Wang Dong took photos of naked and partially naked female models posing at one of China’s biggest tourist attractions, causing outrage.
