Tandanu Episode 03 | Indian Ocean ft. Shankar Mahadevan | Tandanu
  • 8 years ago
Indian Ocean have been one of India's most prolific bands over the past 2 decades. This year they mark their 25th year with their biggest album yet. Titled Tandanu, the album features 7 new tracks with 7 different collaborators. Each track also has an exclusive "Making Of" video with behind the scenes footage of the band jamming and brainstorming with the artists.

In this third Episode, the band will jam with the musical genius, Shankar Mahadevan to create the title track of the album. Tandanu is an old Kannada folk song from the Belur-Helabid region of Karnataka. Rahul heard his aunt sing it when he was really young and it stayed with him all his life. His aunt is one of three sisters (LG Vimala, LG Sumitra, LG Kamala) who used to perform on AIR in Bangalore in the 50s and 60s. In fact they released some of the folk songs they used to sing as an album in the early 2000s. The vocal structure made it a natural for Shankar Mahadevan to collaborate. They did a version of this song live at the Storm Festival in Coorg in early 2013, after a day with Shankar at their rehearsal pad in Delhi. They worked out the Structure of the song and laid a dummy track all ready for Shankar to come in and blow them away!!
