Tandanu Episode 06 | Indian Ocean ft. V. Selvaganesh | Cheetu

Indian Ocean have been one of India's most prolific bands over the past 2 decades. This year they mark their 25th year with their biggest album yet. Titled Tandanu, the album features 7 new tracks with 7 different collaborators. Each track also has an exclusive "Making Of" video with behind the scenes footage of the band jamming and brainstorming with the artists.

Chitu Bhil a chieftain of the Bhil community back in 1850 fought against the British oppression in India. But when the British defeated and killed him , they turned his modest bungalow into a police station. Even today, the Sorwa Police station is Chitu's bungalow...
Rahul learnt this song in February 1993, and just two days later he found himself locked up in Chitu's bungalow!! He sang the song while in the lockup and the jailer was so pleased with the singing that he brought them wonderful hot food from his house to eat. The song cycles in 10 beats and the band had made a couple of riffs in 10/4. They thought this would be an ideal song for Selva to collaborate, as the 10 beat cycle might excite him. Selva heard through the song twice through and then jumped in and elevated the song to a new level... He threw in a korvai (A set beat composition in the Carnatic style), and some great take-offs in between...
