Foolish Australian man narrowly avoids being creamed by oncoming train

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — A man's stupidity was captured on video after his reckless railway crossing nearly got him killed.

In surveillance footage released by Australian train operator V/Line, an early-morning commuter can be seen casually hopping down the tracks as a train pulls away.

Taking a shortcut, he strolls to the other side, not even bothering to look both ways. As a result, he doesn't see the train coming right at him until the last second.

Seconds away from impact, the man notices the danger and runs for his life. He makes it safely back to the other side, to the relief of everyone else on the platform.

The dramatic incident happened 6:40 a.m. on February 9 at Craigieburn Station in Melbourne's north, according to The Age.

The train's driver says he saw the man just ten meters ahead and hit the emergency brakes, but wouldn't have stopped in time.

The incident is the 143rd near-hit in the past year, and prompted a warning from V/Line urging passengers to be more careful and alert around tracks.
