STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — All four members of the UK band Viola Beach and their manager were killed in tragic accident in Sweden early on Saturday morning after their vehicle plunged off a canal bridge.

The four band members, Kristian Leonard, 20, River Reeves, 19, Tomas Lowe, 27, Jack Dakin, 19, and their manager Craig Tarry, 32, were travelling back to Stockholm in a rented Nissan Qashqai after playing at a music festival early on Saturday morning when they approached a canal bridge that had been raised to let a boat through.

Witnesses told local newspaper Aftonbladet that the vehicle was travelling at around 70-80 kilometers per hour and failed to brake, despite warning lights and barriers.

The vehicle then plunged through a gap as the bridge was not fully lowered.

Falling more than 80 feet, or 25 meters, into the canal below, all five people inside the vehicle were killed instantly.

A musician who had been with the band at the festival said Tarry, who was driving, had not been drinking. Police said that it seemed they had simply failed to notice that there was a bridge opening.
