MIAMI — To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King for the second year in a row dirt-bikes, all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles have taken the streets and freeways in southern Florida.

To show solidarity and celebrate the day, hundreds of riders have gathered and driven through Miami-Dade and Broward counties. However, this has also caused massive traffic disruptions.

One person was seriously injured in Fort Lauderdale, while another rider was airlifted to hospital after an incident. Many have also been arrested.

To try to prevent further injuries from taking place, Miami police have confiscated some illegal bikes, while continuing with traffic safety enforcement efforts.

In a Facebook post, Coral Springs police alerted people to be cautious on the roadway, adding that "This in NO way is the message Martin Luther King, Jr. spread for peace. As indicated by these dangerous drivers calling it an MLK Ride."

Many people on social media seemed to agree, calling the whole thing stupid and dangerous, and riders "reckless idiots with bikes."
