South Carolina military college suspends students for wearing KKK-like hoods

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — A group of eight students at Charleston, South Carolina's Citadel Military College have been suspended after being involved in a Snapchat video that saw them don outfits resembling a certain well-known white supremacist group, according to an ABC News report.

Despite their resemblance to members of the Ku Klux Klan, the students were apparently just trying to spread a little Christmas cheer.

According to the report, Sati Firestone, who took snapshots of the video and posted them to Facebook, said one of the comments to the video noted that the students were just dressing up as the Ghost of Christmas Past, one of three spirits that famously haunts Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."

The images have led to widespread outrage and calls from the local chapter of the National Action Network, a civil rights group started by Reverend Al Sharpton in 1991, for the Citadel's president, Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, to resign.

Rosa, who has called the images "offensive and disturbing" and launched an investigation into the matter, hasn't bowed to the pressure and has said he intends to serve out the remainder of his term as president, which ends in 2018.
