Civil Society Present at COP21, Albeit in a Diminished Capacity

While the COP21 Climate Change summit was a top-down event featuring heads of state from across the globe, civil society nonetheless made its voice heard. This was not easy given the French government's ban on demonstrations, which reduced the visibility of NGOs and social organizations. While 20,000 observers were accredited, the official sessions were largely held behind closed doors. However, a wide range of alternative events was held where activists could voice their concerns.
